New article alert : “Phase change material cascade storage for CSP: A performance evaluation”

We congratulate our HYBRIDplus partners’ for a publication based on a new study showing how cascade phase change material (PCM) thermal energy storage (TES) can dramatically improve Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) plants. Compared to traditional molten salt systems, this approach enables higher thermal efficiency and more stable energy management.

What makes it innovative?

-282% more energy storage capacity than single PCM systems

-2D modeling of PCM–metal wool composites under CSP conditions

-Supports next-generation supercritical CO2 (sCO2) power cycles
-Can integrate surplus renewable electricity, increasing grid flexibility and dispatchability

This research positions cascade PCM TES as a cost-effective, high-efficiency solution for the next generation of solar power plants, helping make renewable energy more reliable and sustainable. 🌞
